I'm done, I can't stand it anymore, if I hear the term "Web 2.0" I'll Explode, that's why I'm going to write about it.
Over the last couple of years, we all have heard or read that term nearly everywhere, people posting tutorials about how to make your page "Web 2.0" by drawing a pretty logo, people thinking they're cool and "2.0" because they have a MySpace (which brings us one step closer to the return of "Animated GIFs 90's"), so, what is Web 2.0???
According to some, if you want something to be "Web 2.0" you have to make a logo with a gradient, the smaller the better, like the one above this post. The logo needs to have two bright colors, some reflection, a little 3D effect, a beta tag and a big, red star-like badge. Like the logo above this post.
Does that logo makes me Web 2.0??? I don't think so, because to be "Web 2.0" you also need to watch the design of your page, it needs to be of a light color like white, lime green (the official "Web 2.0" color) or light blue, like this one, one trademark of "Web 2.0" is the slick rounded corners, like the ones surrounding this post, a lot of empty space and a some drop shadows. Like the one around this post.
Now, does that design makes me Web 2.0??? I still don't think so, This is just a simple blog! Now I'm going to tell you what I think about Web 2.0.
Web 2.0 is based on the AJAX hype, which let's you communicate with the server asynchronously, in other words you can submit and/or retrieve information to/from the server without loading the entire page, that allows us to get closer to writing desktop class web applications like Thinkfree or Google Maps big flash animations are slowly being replaced by eye-candy Javascript animations created with the help of the easy to use Scriptaculous or the powerful YUI (among others, of course).
Web 2.0 eased the rebirth of Ruby, faster, accessible and table-less sites with intensive use of CSS, and community driven sites like Wikipedia or Digg.
In Conclusion:
Who started versioning the web anyway? Have you ever heard something like Telephone 2.0? or Fax 2.0? I'd love to find some Paper 2.0. The web is not a piece of software, not even hardware, the web is just a worldwide network. Web 2.0 is just an idea, something for this generation to feel special; I didn't hear of no Web 2.0 when the hype of the animated gifs and marquees begun, I didn't hear of any Web 2.0 when the hype of javascript and cgi scripts begun.
Did You???
